Artifacts of Transformation
About the me…
I’m a sculptor and co-owner of a bronze art foundry in Houston, Texas.
My passion for sculpture began in earnest when I was exposed to ceramics through an excellent teacher in the 80s. I found the simple and direct nature of working with clay meditative and healing. The patient process allowed me time to develop a sensitivity for the truths I sought.
Immediately after college, I coupled that sensitivity with resourcefulness to create toys for children with mental and physical challenges. I’d combine toys, games, and adaptive switches in playful and unexpected ways, creating situations where the children and their families could playfully experience success and connection. Although I found nonprofit work fulfilling, I realized the next step in my journey lay in the fine arts.
My studio work continues with playful and resourceful themes. I combine disparate objects in unexpected ways, suggesting intimate artifacts of transformation. Influenced by the Surrealists and Art Povera movements, my work uses natural and manufactured objects, clay, and wax, blending traditional techniques with innovative methods.
My work speaks with its environment in my public projects. I enjoy designing spaces with objects that encourage reflection and wonder. I intend to inspire a slower pace encouraging curiosity about one’s experience in the space of a moment.
